The evolving workplace has brought us to a point where employees do their jobs where and when they can be most productive, utilizing sophisticated resources and ever-advancing technology. It is also an environment where artificial intelligence (AI) comes into play.
The Power of AI
We’ve all experienced small benefits of AI on some level at work, even if we’re so used to them that we fail to give it a second thought. It may be as minor as your word processing app correcting the spelling of a word. Or chat bots on websites that can answer at least simple user questions.
Though basic, these rudimentary forms of AI have paved the way for more purposeful, complex solutions aimed at enhancing human interactions. Workers are now able to use AI in increasingly more advanced and limitless ways.
Let’s go back to the chat bot example and take a look at what once was a simple question and answer tool. With more sophisticated AI, this has the capacity to become an AI-enabled virtual assistance engine, one that can help with tasks such as booking travel for employees. This involves advanced capabilities such as recognizing the most effective itineraries from previously taken trips, and making recommendations based on location, travel purpose, and schedule.
As another example, imagine that there’s an architectural design firm trying to leverage its knowledge base to complete jobs faster. As information is captured about previous projects and customer interactions (and the decisions surrounding them), an AI-based digital work environment can effectively leverage that information to aid in planning and executing future projects. For instance, analysis of blueprints of previous similar projects can offer recommendations to create more profitable business outcomes and help expedite completion dates.
A New Digital Workplace
Especially in a business context, AI can help companies create better products, streamline processes, enable stronger teams and increase revenue. AI is a technology that is continually evolving, and with it today’s workplace continues to evolve as well.
In fact, AI is helping foster new and better ways of modeling natural human behavior. For an enterprise, this can mean a more effective workday, maximized bandwidth, happier employees and an increase in output – the ultimate goal of any business.
A New Way of Thinking
Implementing AI-enabled software requires a new way of looking at work, both for management and employees. Leaning on AI demands not only a shift in how executives approach getting work done but a culture shift among workers themselves.
AI, especially in the context of digital work environments, helps support a focus on outcomes. By limiting all of the noise that typically comes along with complex tasks, projects and initiatives, AI can enable companies to take the most effective routes.
